Afterward
Water lightly and often — 10 minutes twice a day for two weeks beats one long soak. Hold off on mowing until the new grass hits about 3 inches, and skip weed control for a full 6 weeks or you will kill everything you just paid for.

Do I have to overseed every year?
No. Once a lawn is thick, aeration alone every year or two holds it. Overseeding matters most while you are still recovering density.
Can you overseed without aerating first?

I have zoysia — can you overseed it?
Zoysia does not get overseeded. It spreads by runners rather than seed, and cool-season seed dropped into it just becomes a weed problem next summer.
